Long Beach Medical Arts Pavilion (Mount Sinai Doctors - Long Beach) - Concrete and Asphalt Work, Tuesday, November 1, 2022
Please be advised that concrete and asphalt work will begin at Mount Sinai South Nassau’s Long Beach Medical Arts Pavilion (Mount Sinai Doctors - Long Beach) site along East State Street and Lincoln Blvd beginning Tuesday, November 1, 2022, and continue (weather permitting) for approximately 3 weeks.
During this time, this roadway will be blocked, and no parking will be permitted. Roadway barriers will be installed to block off parking spaces beginning Monday, October 31, 2022. Existing concrete curbs and sidewalks will be removed, and new concrete curbs, Accessible Curb Ramps and new sidewalks will be installed. Once completed, topsoil and grass seed will be placed in the existing grass area between the new concrete curb and new sidewalk. A representative from the Design, Development & Construction team will be available during these activities and every effort will be made to minimize inconvenience during this period.
Commencement of Dewatering Operations at Long Beach Medical Arts Pavilion (Mount Sinai Doctors - Long Beach) starting Monday, November 1, 2021
Please be advised that dewatering operations are scheduled to commence on Monday, November 1, 2021. This work will take place Monday thru Friday from approximately 8:30am to 5:00pm. This dewatering work is estimated to be completed by December 6, 2021, subject to weather.
The scope of work shall include running an electric pump to lower the elevation of groundwater for the completion of the concrete pile caps and foundations. The water will circulate through a filtration system and be discharged into Reynolds Channel in compliance with the NYS DEC Dewatering Permit.
A Mount Sinai South Nassau representative from the Facilities Team will be on-site during the activities. Every effort will be made to minimize any potential inconvenience or disruptions.

Long Beach Medical Arts Pavilion (Mount Sinai Doctors - Long Beach) - Effective Tuesday, September 21, 2021
The accumulation of water on the Long Beach Medical Arts Pavilion (Mount Sinai Doctors - Long Beach) site is ground water which is slated to be safely removed so construction can resume. We have secured approval to commence the dewatering effort from all governmental oversight agencies, including the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, and we will begin mobilization later this week. You should be prepared to see dewatering equipment like Weir tanks, pumps and hoses.
EW Howell, our general contractor, will work directly with the Keller, a leading ground water control company, who will be mobilizing at the site later this week. The mobilization effort will take approximately 10 days. The full dewatering operation is anticipated to run 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. Pumped water will be filtered and treated and then safely redirected into Reynolds Channel. The water being pumped into the channel has met all environmental standards for this type of operation. We will be pumping the ground water around the clock to a level down to a point where concrete can be formed and poured. We will not be using a diesel generator for this operation. Instead, we secured a quieter and more environmentally friendly publicly metered electric service from PSE&G. The remaining pile caps, footings and foundation activities will recommence during this dewatering process.

PSEG will be onsite to remove the existing poles, overhead wires, decommissioned transformers and utility equipment at the site. The PSEG work, starting this Saturday, November 31, 2020, is expected to take five days to complete.

Project Overview
Mount Sinai South Nassau’s proposed 15,400 sq. ft. Medical Arts Pavilion (“MAP”) addresses the need for a community based center of specialty healthcare services in Long Beach and the barrier island that will incorporate a flexible design that will allow it to adjust and grow as the healthcare needs of the residents change in the years to come. The proposed facility will provide ‘one stop shopping’ for patients seeking access to a wide variety of medical specialists and host a wide variety of highly skilled physician specialists whose services are needed on the barrier island today. The MAP will also house a lab with lab draw areas, in addition to echocardiography and treatment rooms.
Community Benefit
MSSN has been working to restore and improve the delivery of health care services in Long Beach for the past seven years and has made a major commitment with the proposed $40 million MAP, which will bring a variety of medical specialists back to the barrier island to care for patients close to home.
Right now, MSSN operates almost 15,000 sq. ft. of medical space on the barrier island, including Long Island’s only free-standing Emergency Department.
Our singular focus is to provide residents and families with convenient access to a network of high-quality specialty healthcare services, in their neighborhood at a single location.

Medical Services
What types of services will be offered in the building?
Mount Sinai South Nassau’s vision for this facility is to serve as a center for state-of-the-art healthcare featuring an integrated network of specialty practices and highly skilled specialists. Some of those proposed medical services include:
- Cardiology & Cardiology Testing
- Gastroenterology
- Urology
- Pain Management & Pain Procedures
- Lab Services
- State-of-the-art diagnostic imaging services
Hours of Operation: Initially, the hours of operation for most clinical services will be between the hours of 8am and 5pm Monday-Friday. Evening hours on select days and hours on Saturdays will be phased in over time in accordance with needs of the community.
Building Size and Usage: The 15,400 sq. ft. single story facility will feature a patient-centered interior design, with approximately 15 comfortably furnished private, patient examination rooms and consultation rooms; 4 procedure rooms; and 9 spaces for prep, recovery and imaging.
Environmental Impact: MSSN has completed the required environmental review. The new space will be fortified to meet current wind/seismic requirements and built in conformance with the 100-year floodplain requirements.
Economic Benefit: Our singular focus is to provide families with convenient and seamless access to high quality specialty healthcare services, right in their own backyard while providing high-skill jobs and economic opportunity to a location that has been vacant for some time. The new Long Beach facility will reinvigorate the vacated site of the former Long Beach Medical Center, where the community had received its health care for decades. Dozens of healthcare-related employees will support the facility, in addition to building trade jobs during construction.
