Volunteering at Mount Sinai South Nassau

Volunteering at Mount Sinai South Nassau can be both satisfying and enriching. And there’s no experience necessary! Anyone with a little spare time, an easy smile and a kind heart qualifies. Whether you have just a few hours to give each month, or many hours each week, join us! You can truly make a difference in someone’s life.

As an adult volunteer, or as part of our Junior Volunteer Program, you can either work with patients or help staff with clerical and courier duties in a clinical or administrative area. We sometimes have special opportunities to volunteer, such as Hospital Eldercare, which offers companionship and a chance to interact with seniors; and Animal-Assisted Therapy, which helps hospitalized patients recuperate from illness faster by lessening feelings of fear, anxiety and loneliness, so common during a hospitalization.

The Many Rewards

Our volunteers tell us how rewarding they find their work. No matter what role you choose, you’ll become an important part of our team — for patients, family members, visitors, staff, physicians — and each other! But, in addition to personal rewards, we honor our volunteers with special pins denoting the hours they've worked; and you’ll also be our guest at special volunteer recognition held annually.

Volunteers Needed

Mount Sinai South Nassau is looking for adults ages 18 and over to give of their precious time to the community as a volunteer in our hospital. We are looking for volunteers to join our team who are willing to work a three to four hour shift each week with a minimum of 100 hours a year.

Assignments may be patient related- in areas such as nursing, emergency department, oncology and physical therapy where volunteers assist staff in non-clinical ways. In addition, volunteers support the nursing units by delivering newspapers and magazines and running errands throughout the hospital.

Volunteers are also needed in administrative offices such as Human Resources, Business Office, Medical Records, Admitting and satellite locations throughout the organization  providing clerical services..

Volunteer benefits:
