Training Sites

Mount Sinai South Nassau - Established in 1928, our hospital is one of the region’s largest hospitals with 455 beds, more than 900 physicians, and 3,000 employees.  We have nearly 23,000 admissions per year. We are Nassau County's only South Shore hospital offering 24-hour, lifesaving emergency angioplasty; and we are a Level II Trauma Center, with more than 60,000 ER visits yearly. We also installed the first Gamma Knife® on Long Island, allowing for minimally invasive surgical treatment of otherwise inaccessible or inoperable brain tumors. Our hospital also serves as a Stroke Center for Long Island, New York.

A few of the medical services we offer include palliative care, dialysis, uterine fibroid embolization, sleep center, wound care, behavioral health, and many more. We are also one of the first South Shore hospitals who offer da Vinci Robotic surgery and we are continuously expanding our campus. Although our hospital is big, we retain the cozy atmosphere of a big family in a small community hospital.

Family Medicine Center at Oceanside - a multi-million dollar facility designed specifically for the training of our residents. The 10,000 square-foot structure is a freestanding facility located just one block from the hospital. The Center houses a reception area, nursing station, 17 examining rooms, a procedure room, an osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) room, a residents’ work area, precepting areas, administrative offices, a business office and a state-of- the-art conference room. The Center is equipped with the technology to perform spirometry, common dermatologic procedures, audiometery, colposcopy, fetal heart monitoring, cryotherapy and endometrial biopsies and minor surgical procedures. The examination rooms are designed to enhance patient education and comfort and one even has videotaping capabilities used for teaching purposes. The conference room has teleradiography and videoconferencing capabilities. Glass blocks and skylights throughout the facility provide a warm, friendly environment, and because the administrative offices are located on site, there is easy access to the faculty and the entire Family Medicine staff. Built in 2001 and receives more than 20,000 visits per year. Our clinic offers a full range of services including Primary Care Clinic, Cardiology Clinic, Dermatology Clinic, Geriatrics Clinic, Sports Medicine Clinic, Newborn Clinic, OB Clinic, GYN Clinic, Podiatry Clinic, and onsite social work, dietician, diabetic educator, and psychologist. We are a Patient-Centered Medical recognized practice.

Community Outreach Programs:

• Town of Hempstead Department of Senior Enrichment Flu Program: Residents provide on-site medical supervision for administration of flu vaccines to Senior Citizens residing in Nassau County
  
• Health Fairs: SNCH participates in local health fairs providing health and wellness information as well as information about programs and services offered by SNCH, in conjunction with the Department of Family Medicine. 
  
• Outreach and Screening Services: The Department of Community Education coordinates a number of free community screenings for prostate cancer, colorectal cancer, head and neck cancer, skin cancer in addition to conducting screening/risk assessment for cardiovascular health (blood pressure, BMI, cholesterol), prevention of stroke and management of diabetes. Residents provide assistance and support regarding risk assessment/risk reduction with individuals and are often available for “ask the doctor” interaction at selected events and screenings.
• Teddy Bear Clinic: An educational program offered to Kindergarten students designed to provide them with a better understanding of how common emergencies are diagnosed and treated in a hospital/emergency room setting. Content covered includes x-rays, suturing, casting for broken bones and respiratory treatments (including the hazards of smoking), with all with the intention of decreasing a child’s fear associated with the emergency room or hospital. Students are invited from Oceanside and Rockville Centre.  Approximately 750 students attend this program each year.
• Tar Wars: Sponsored by the AAFP, Tar Wars is a tobacco-free education program for fourth and fifth grade students. Through interactive classroom presentations, our residents have the opportunity to teach kids in our local schools about the consequences of tobacco use, the cost associated with using tobacco products, and the advertising techniques used by the tobacco industry to market their products to youth.
