Advanced Computer-Assisted Technology at Mount Sinai South Nassau
If you’ve heard of the da Vinci® Surgical System, “Gamma Knife®,” “CyberKnife®,” and other “radiosurgery” technology, you’re already familiar with some of the most advanced and innovative treatments available anywhere. These are types of “computer-assisted” technology that offer physicians a level of precision not possible using the human hand alone. And specialists at Mount Sinai South Nassau are some of the most experienced in the area — offering these options for care here in the communities we serve.
Our experienced team of surgeons, radiation oncologists, other specialists and nurses have performed thousands of procedures using these technologies for urology, gynecology, lung cancer, and conditions of the brain, liver, pancreas, spine, prostate, spine and more. It’s used for cancer as well as many treatments, such as hysterectomy, that used to be done using traditional surgery.
Computer-assisted technology is an important part of our broad range of options for care, since innovations in this field allow many of our patients to avoid traditional surgery, plus longer hospital stays and longer recovery times. Computer-assisted treatment is also called “computer-guided” or “robot-assisted” surgery. Radiosurgery at Mount Sinai South Nassau is also a type of computer-assisted treatment, used to provide radiation treatment for cancer.
Whether the procedure is relatively simple or complex, patients benefit from computer-assisted surgery in many ways:
- Smaller incisions (a “minimally invasive” approach)
- Significantly less pain
