Central Council Auxiliary Honored for its Efforts in Support of South Nassau
The Central Council Auxiliary of South Nassau
Communities Hospital presented the Hospital with a check for more than $108,000 at its Annual Silver Tea held recently.
More than 200 members of the Auxiliary joined with Ms. Candy Misner, president of the Auxiliary, and Ms. Ethel Simmons, the Auxiliary’s incoming president, to present the check to Mr. Joseph A. Quagliata, president & chief executive officer, and Mr. Harold Mahony, chairman of the board of directors. The money was raised through an array of programs and activities, including the Freeport Thrift Shop, South Nassau's Coffee Shop, monthly lobby sales and a Chinese Auction.
The 2008 Silver Tea was dedicated to Ms. Misner, who is stepping down as president of the Auxiliary after 10 years of devoted service. During Ms. Misner’s leadership, the Auxiliary raised nearly $2 million in support of South Nassau. As president, Ms. Misner also served on the hospital’s Board of Directors and was appointed to its committees for Quality Review/Performance Improvement; Development; and Strategic Planning. Ms. Misner also volunteers at the Hospital’s fund raising events, organizing and coordinating raffle drawings and other activities, which have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for South Nassau.
“Words alone can’t express the deep gratitude that I, along with the Board of Directors and the entire South Nassau family, have for Candy’s selfless gift of her time, talent and treasure. Her efforts and commitment have been vital to the growth of South Nassau,” said Mr. Quagliata. “In appreciation of our auxilians and in recognition of Healthcare Auxiliary Day, we proudly recognize Ms. Misner and the Central Council Auxiliary for their support and achievements.”
The Central Council Auxiliary has been recognized for its meritorious support of South Nassau’s mission. It is a past recipient of the prestigious Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) Advocacy Award, which is presented in recognition its successful charitable activities and organizational excellence.
