South Nassau Appoints Director of Ophthalmology
South Nassau Communities Hospital recently named renowned eye surgeon Richard Nauheim, MD, Director of its Department of Ophthalmology. Dr. Nauheim previously served as assistant director of the department.

"Dr. Nauheim is a reflection of that commitment, and is in the vanguard in his specialty.”
Dr. Nauheim specializes in treating problems such as double vision, optic nerve disorders, visual/eye movement complications, cataracts, diseases of the retina, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and macular degeneration.
Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Nauheim is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at S.U.N.Y Stony Brook School of Medicine. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Hofstra University and medical degree from S.U.N.Y. Buffalo School of Medicine. In 1984, he completed an internship at The Long Island College Hospital and residency training at Nassau University Medical Center in 1988. He completed a fellowship in cornea and external disease at the prestigious Eye & Ear Institute of Pittsburgh in 1989.
Dr. Nauheim is active in research, lecturing and publishing papers on ophthalmology. He has presented at prestigious national and international institutions and meetings, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the New York Academy of Medicine. He has been published in prestigious peer reviewed journals such as the Archives of Ophthalmology.
