South Nassau Names Joshua Kugler, MD, Senior VP, Chief Medical Officer


Oceanside, NY – Joshua Kugler, M.D., FACEP, FAAEM, has been named Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at South Nassau Communities Hospital. Dr. Kugler has served as Interim Medical Director since January 2007.

Quagliata, President & CEO at South Nassau. “He is a proven leader who is recognized for working with his peers to advance the standards of the healthcare at South Nassau.”

In addition to his role as Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Kugler also serves as the Co-Chairman of South Nassau’s Ethics Committee. His involvement in hospital committees includes Utilization Review, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, as well as Emergency Management. Dr. Kugler also functions as the lead physician in Advanced Cardiac Life Support education for the hospital.

Dr. Kugler is actively involved in both Nassau County and NY State committees, including the Regional Emergency Medical Advisory Committee as well as the State Department of Health Advisory Committee and the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Professional Development Committee.

Prior to joining South Nassau, Dr. Kugler was the Associate Director of Emergency Medicine at St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson, NY, and draws from clinical experience, which extends to hospitals in Maryland, Virginia, Florida and Mississippi.

Dr. Kugler served in the United States Navy for nine years in both operational and clinical roles. He completed his service in 1999 as a Lieutenant Commander. His naval medical training was furthered at the Naval Aerospace and Operational Medical Institute where he was a designated Flight Surgeon in 1997.

Dr. Kugler graduated from Duke University with a Bachelors of Science and attained his Medical Doctorate at the University of Pittsburgh. Additionally, Dr. Kugler has a Masters of Science Degree in Health Management from Harvard University.
