Dr. Linda Efferen Named to Becker's Hospital Review Annual List of 52 Women Hospital & Healthcare Leaders

A leading hospital and healthcare industry publication recently announced that Linda Efferen, MD, chief medical officer at South Nassau Communities Hospital, has been named to its prestigious listing of the top "52 Women Hospital & Healthcare Leaders" in the United States.

Members of the list, which is compiled by Becker's Hospital Review, were selected for their accomplishments in leading healthcare and hospital organizations, including improvement of patient care, development of relationships between providers and facilitation of organizational growth. Each featured woman was lauded by her colleagues for contributing significant value to the healthcare industry. Members of the list do not pay and cannot pay to be included on this list.

To create the list, the editorial team at Becker's Hospital Review accepted nominations for the most influential women in healthcare through its website and weekly online newsletters. After several months of collecting nominations and researching the background of each nominee, the editorial team narrowed the contenders to a list of 50 top women leaders. The publication repeats this process annually to ensure an up-to-date compendium. Becker's Hospital Review is a Chicago-based publication focusing on hospital and healthcare news and business advice. The primary audience for the publication is hospital executives and healthcare industry leaders.

As chief medical officer, Dr. Efferen is responsible for facilitating medical staff interactions with hospital administration and the governing board and for assuring the effective and efficient delivery of quality medical care consistent with the mission of South Nassau. She also oversees strategic planning and execution, as well as the implementation of care management programs, and monitors the effectiveness of management practices and productivity indicators.

Prior to her appointment at South Nassau, Dr. Efferen was associate chair/department of medicine at Long Island Jewish Medical Center for over eight years. Prior to that she served as chief/division of pulmonary and critical care medicine at SUNY-Health Science Center in Brooklyn. She held a number of other positions during her tenure at SUNY-Health Science Center.

Dr. Efferen is board certified in hospice and palliative medicine, critical care medicine, pulmonary medicine and internal medicine. She has been listed in the Consumers Research Council of America’s Guide to America’s Top Physicians, Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors: New York Metro Area (for seven years), Best Doctors’ Best Doctors in America and has received a host of awards/honors, including a spot in the 2010 class of Long Island Business News’ Long Island’s Top 50 Business Women. She is a member of a number of professional organizations, including the New York Academy of Science, American College of Chest Physicians, American College of Critical Care Physicians, American College of Medical Quality, American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
